Pinangunahan ni President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang paggunita sa ika-128 anibersaryo ng Proclamation of Philippine Independence sa Rizal Park, Manila ngayong Biyernes, June 12.
Sa kanyang mensahe, nanawagan si Marcos sa mga Pilipino na humugot ng inspirasyon sa mga bayani at magtulungan para sa ikabubuti ng lahat.
Binigyang-pugay niya ang mga bayaning nagtaguyod ng kalayaan at ang maraming Pilipinong naglaan ng buhay para sa kapakanan ng bayan.
Sinabi ni Marcos na ang Declaration of Independence sa Kawit, Cavite noong June 12, 1898 ay mahalagang yugto sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas.
“It was the moment we formally asserted our right to govern ourselves and determine our own destiny. The years that followed tested our resolve as we built institutions, strengthened national unity, and sustained a truly independent republic,” ani Marcos.
Nagsimula ang Independence Day rites sa arrival honors para sa Pangulo, kabilang ang 21-gun salute at military honors.
Kasama niya sina First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos at mga anak na sina House Majority Leader at Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos III, Joseph Simon Marcos, at William Vincent Marcos.
Dumalo rin ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno, military leaders, at mga panauhin sa flag-raising ceremony.
Pagkatapos ng flag-raising, pinangunahan ni Marcos ang wreath-laying rites sa Rizal Monument kasama sina National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr. at Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
Dumalo rin si Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
Kabilang sa mga panauhin sina Acting Senate President at Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, House Speaker Faustino Dy at mga miyembro ng House of Representatives, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps at Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Most Rev. Charles John Brown, mga miyembro ng diplomatic corps, Cabinet officials, major service commanders, Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., at Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan.
Sinabi ni Marcos na umaasa siyang palalalimin ng okasyon ang pag-unawa ng mga Pilipino sa kasaysayan at magbibigay ito ng panibagong sense of duty habang itinatayo ang Bagong Pilipinas “worthy of the sacrifices that secured our sovereignty and of the dreams and aspirations that gave birth to our Republic.”
“We must protect truth from distortion, harness technology wisely, and restore trust in a time increasingly marked by division and distrust. How we respond to these demands will shape the course of our nation and define what we pass on to future generations,” ani Marcos.
“As we honor this day, we are reminded that freedom is not merely a legacy we inherit but a responsibility we must uphold,” dagdag niya. /Bistado
