Hindi “dead on arrival” sa Senado ang impeachment case laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte, ayon kay House Committee on Public Accounts chair at Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
Sinabi ni Ridon nitong Saturday na pinanghahawakan ng House prosecution panel ang written notice ni Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano na magko-convene ang Senate Impeachment Court sa Monday, May 18, 3 p.m.
Si Ridon ay isa sa 11 House prosecutors na maghaharap ng Articles of Impeachment at ebidensya laban kay Duterte sa Senate trial.
Ayon kay Ridon, magpapatuloy ang prosecution panel sa paniniwalang didinggin ng senator-judges ang kaso nang patas at independent, batay sa ebidensyang ihaharap ng magkabilang panig.
“So tingin ko po yun pong mga senator-judges naman po natin at the time of trial, they will look at it with open eyes, will look at the evidence both from the prosecution and the defense, and decide based on the evidence and based on their conscience,” ani Ridon.
Giit niya, hindi symbolic appearance ang paghahanda ng House prosecution team. Full trial ang inaasahan nila, kaya hahatiin ng 11-member panel ang trabaho batay sa iba’t ibang grounds ng impeachment.
“Labing-isa ang mga prosecutors. So I think all of us may at least 2 grounds na i-represent at bahagi,” sabi ni Ridon.
“So talagang may kanya-kanyang bahagi kung saan talagang pinapresent ang iba’t ibang aspeto ng kaso,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi ni Ridon na hahawakan niya ang mga isyung may kinalaman sa unexplained wealth at misuse of confidential funds, na kabilang sa pinakamabigat sa ebidensya sa Articles of Impeachment.
Ang Article I ay tumatalakay sa alleged systematic misuse, misappropriation, at irregular liquidation ng P612.5 million confidential funds sa ilalim ng Office of the Vice President at Department of Education.
Ang Article II naman ay nakatuon sa alleged unexplained wealth, SALN discrepancies, continued business interests, at bilyon-bilyong covered and suspicious transactions sa Anti-Money Laundering Council records na kinasasangkutan umano ni Duterte at kanyang asawa.
Ayon kay Ridon, kailangan ng multi-agency presentation sa unexplained wealth article. Kabilang dito ang mga records at materyales mula sa AMLC, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Securities and Exchange Commission, at iba pang ahensya.
“So for example, for unexplained wealth may magpapresenta para sa AMLC, may magpapresenta for BIR, may magpapresenta for SEC at iba pang related ahensya para patunayan ang unexplained wealth,” ani Ridon.
Nauna nang na-impeach ng House si Duterte sa ikalawang pagkakataon matapos bumoto ang 257 lawmakers pabor sa Articles of Impeachment. Lampas ito sa 106 votes na kailangan para ma-transmit ang kaso sa Senate.
Sakop ng articles ang allegations sa confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, graft and corruption, at threats laban sa top government officials.
Para kay Ridon, malinaw na ang susunod na hakbang: naipadala na ng House ang Articles, nag-anunsyo na ang Senate President ng pagbubukas ng impeachment court, at handa na ang prosecution na iharap ang kaso.
“If it is something that is dead on arrival, it would have been a different pronouncement by the current Senate President. But we will hold on. We have great faith in [Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano’s] pronouncement na talagang mag-convene ang Senate Impeachment Court…Panghahawakan po namin ang ganitong commitment,” giit ni Ridon. /Bistado
