Pumayag ang Reddit na magtalaga ng Philippine-based representative at magbukas ng dedicated “Green Lane” para sa government complaints, kasunod ng direktiba ng gobyerno na palakasin ang pananagutan ng online platforms sa seryosong banta sa internet.
Nauna nang binigyan ng Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) ang Reddit at Discord ng 24 oras para magtalaga ng local representative kasunod ng pagtutok ng pamahalaan sa child safety at online activities na posibleng mauwi sa real-world violence.
Nakipagpulong ang Reddit sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at CICC, kung saan nangako ang platform na palalakasin ang pakikipag-ugnayan nito sa gobyerno.
Kabilang dito ang Green Lane mechanism na magsisilbing direktang channel ng government agencies sa pagsusumite at pagresolba ng lehitimong complaints.
Sa isang pahayag, winelcome ng grupong Digital Pinoys ang hakbang.
“The establishment of a dedicated Green Lane and the designation of a Philippine-based representative are important steps. Government agencies need clear and effective channels through which legitimate concerns can be raised and addressed, particularly when these involve serious threats to public safety and online safety,” sabi ni Digital Pinoys National Campaigner Ronald Gustilo, na lumahok sa pulong ng CICC.
Ayon sa grupo, makatutulong ang bagong setup sa koordinasyon sa mga kasong may kaugnayan sa public safety threats, exploitation of minors, violent extremist content, cybercrime at iba pang seryosong online threats.
“Platform accountability is not simply about imposing requirements on technology companies. It is also about creating practical mechanisms that allow government and platforms to work together when urgent concerns arise,” ani Gustilo.
Iginiit naman ng Digital Pinoys na kailangang balansehin ang mas mahigpit na platform accountability at karapatan ng users.
“We believe that platform accountability and digital rights can coexist. Stronger cooperation does not have to mean weakening legitimate online freedoms. It should mean having clear, lawful, and effective processes for responding to genuine threats while respecting users’ rights,” sabi ni Gustilo.
Pinuri rin ng grupo ang DICT at CICC sa direktang pakikipag-usap sa global technology platforms.
“We welcome Reddit’s willingness to respond to the concerns raised by Philippine authorities and establish stronger lines of communication with the Philippine government. We likewise commend DICT and CICC for continuing to pursue direct engagement with platforms,” ani Gustilo. /Bistado
