Hinarang ng PLDT Inc. at wireless subsidiary nitong Smart Communications Inc. ang mahigit 100 website na nag-stream o nagho-host ng footage ng school shootings at iba pang matinding karahasan.
Ayon sa telco companies, layunin ng hakbang na maprotektahan ang mga subscriber—partikular ang mga bata at kabataan—laban sa disturbing at potentially traumatic content sa internet.
“This is something we do not tolerate,” ani PLDT chief operating officer Butch Jimenez.
“We have decided to ban these kinds of sites preemptively, as soon as they are discovered. Our networks will not be used as a channel for content that glorifies violence and puts our communities, especially our children, at risk.”
Isinasagawa ang blocking sa network level, kaya hindi na maa-access ng lahat ng PLDT at Smart subscriber ang mga natukoy na website.
Sinabi ng kompanya na patuloy pang madaragdagan ang listahan habang may mga bagong platform na natutukoy sa kanilang monitoring at pakikipag-ugnayan sa government agencies, child protection groups at parenting communities.
“There is no debate to be had here,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
“Content that turns real-world violence into entertainment has no place on our networks and in our society, and we will keep acting decisively every time we find it.”
Bahagi ang hakbang ng mas malawak na child protection at online safety programs ng PLDT Group. Kabilang dito ang pagharang sa mga website na nagho-host ng child sexual abuse material.
Ayon sa grupo, layunin nitong mapanatili ang mas ligtas na digital spaces at pigilan ang paggamit sa kanilang telecommunications infrastructure bilang daluyan ng content na nagtatampok o nagluluwalhati sa tunay na karahasan. /Bistado
