BAGUIO CITY — Isang P3.1 milyong swine multiplier farm ang ipinagkaloob ng Department of Agriculture–Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) sa lokal na pamahalaan ng La Trinidad, Benguet upang mapalakas ang hog production at pagbangon ng rehiyon mula sa African swine fever (ASF).
Kasama sa proyekto ang breeding pigs, housing facilities at farm supplies. Bahagi ito ng Livelihood Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) program ng Department of Agriculture (DA).
“The swine multiplier farm project aims to produce pigs locally and reduce the need to transport hogs that may carry diseases,” ani DA-CAR Regional Director Jennilyn Dawayan nitong Biyernes.
Ayon kay Dawayan, bahagi ang proyekto ng swine repopulation program na inilunsad matapos mapababa ng ASF outbreaks ang bilang ng mga baboy sa rehiyon.
Sa pamamagitan ng local production ng breeding stocks at market hogs, inaasahang magkakaroon ng mas maaasahang supply ang mga hog raiser at mababawasan ang panganib ng pagkalat ng sakit mula sa mga baboy na ibinibiyahe mula sa ibang lugar.
Hinimok naman ni DA-CAR Regional Technical Director for Research Arlene Sagayo ang lokal na pamahalaan na gamitin nang husto ang pasilidad at mahigpit na ipatupad ang biosecurity measures.
“We hope La Trinidad will become a model of a thriving swine multiplier farm whose success can inspire other local government units across the region,” ani Sagayo.
Nagtayo na rin ang DA ng kahalintulad na mga pasilidad para sa cooperatives, farmers’ organizations at state universities upang mapalakas ang local hog production para sa breeding at karne.
Sa ilalim ng LEED program, tumatanggap ang beneficiaries ng infrastructure, de-kalidad na breeding stocks, equipment at technical support upang mapataas ang livestock production at kita ng mga magsasaka.
Kailangang panatilihin ng mga recipient ang mahigpit na biosecurity protocols at tuloy-tuloy na production upang manatiling operational ang pasilidad kahit matapos ang tatlong taong assistance period.
