ILOILO CITY – Nasabat ng Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) at Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ang mahigit P25 million halaga ng illegal cigarettes sa Estancia, Iloilo nitong Huwebes ng hapon.
Sa ulat nitong Biyernes ng gabi, sinabi ng PRO-6 na arestado si alias Jelyn, 42-anyos, self-employed, at residente ng Estancia, dahil sa umano’y unlawful possession or removal of articles subject to excise tax without payment.
Nasabat sa magkahiwalay na operasyon ang 30,098 packs ng assorted illicit cigarettes, kabilang ang 1,448 packs sa Barangay Zone I, Poblacion, at 28,650 packs sa Barangay Lumbia.
Tinatayang nasa P25.07 million ang kabuuang halaga ng nasabat, kasama ang tax penalties.
Isinagawa ang operasyon sa bisa ng search warrant na inilabas ng Executive Judge ng Branch 71, 6th Judicial Region, at Bureau of Internal Revenue revenue and mission orders na inisyu ng Regional Director ng Revenue Region 11.
Ayon kay Acting PRO-6 Director, Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, patuloy na susuporta ang pulisya sa partner agencies sa pamamagitan ng intelligence-driven operations para managot ang violators.
“This accomplishment reflects the strength of intelligence-driven and coordinated law enforcement action against illegal trade. Illicit cigarettes deprive the government of lawful revenues, undermine legitimate businesses, and expose the public to unregulated products. Tuaño said.
Hinimok din niya ang publiko na i-report ang kahina-hinalang aktibidad kaugnay ng manufacture, transport, storage, o sale ng illicit products. /Bistado
