Ibinasura na ang panukalang plano ng international football federation FIFA na magbenta ng pribadong stake sa mga susunod na World Cup tournament.
Ang panukala ay na nagdulot ng matinding pagtutol mula sa mga tagahanga at mga asosasyon ng football sa buong mundo.
“Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place. Our purpose has always been — and will always be — to unite and improve,” ani FIFA president Gianni Infantino sa isang pahayag.
“As a result, this proposal will not proceed.”
Inanunsyo noong Martes ang planong magtatag ng hiwalay na subsidiary, na may kasamang pamumuhunan mula sa private equity, na siyang hahawak sa commercial at operational rights ng isa sa pinakamalaking sporting event sa mundo.
Nagresulta ito sa matinding batikos mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng mundo, kung saan sinabi ng UEFA (Union of European Football Associations o Europa League) na nanganganib ang “soul and governance” ng isport.
Iginiit ng FIFA na ang malilikom na pondo ay muling ilalaan para sa pagpapaunlad ng football.
Sinabi ni Infantino na layunin nya na muling pagkaisahin ang mundo ng football matapos ang kontrobersya.
“Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, particularly in those countries that mostly need our support,” dagdag nya.
Nauna ng sinabi ng UEFA, na binubuo ng 55 miyembrong asosasyon, na iboboykot nila ang World Cup kung itutuloy ang plano.
Ang desisyon ay ginawa sa isang emergency meeting na ipinatawag upang talakayin ang panukalang ng FIFA.
Ang Concacaf (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) ay nagsabing ang 41 nitong myembrong asosasyon ay tutol rin sa panukala.
“The World Cup cannot be treated as an investment product,” pahayag ng UEFA. “It is one of football’s greatest sporting legacies. It has been built over generations by players, national teams and supporters across every continent. No part of it should ever be surrendered to private investors. The World Cup is not for sale.”
Saklaw ng planong boycott ng UEFA ang lahat ng kompetisyon ng FIFA, pati na rin ang Club World Cup.
