Handa na ang lahat para sa 4th Southeast Asia Open Water Swimming Championships na gaganapin ngayong Agosto 21-23 sa Boracay Newcoast sa lalawigan ng Aklan.
Ang torneo, na inorganisa ng Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI) at katuwang ang Southeast Asia Aquatics, ay naglalayong ipakita ang husay ng mga atleta habang isinusulong ang sportsmanship, pagpapalitan ng kultura, at sports tourism ng Pilipinas.
“We are very proud to host this event because open water swimming is an Olympic event,” ani PAI secretary general Eric Buhain sa Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum nitong Martes sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) conference room sa Maynila.
Tinatayang 100 hanggang 120 manlalangoy mula sa walong bansa, kabilang ang 35 mula sa Pilipinas, ang lalahok sa 3K, 5K, at 10K na karera para sa kalalakihan at kababaihan.
“We are also here to promote our country in the same breath that Bali (Indonesia) and Pattaya (Thailand) hosted the event. Pagandahan,” dagdag ni Buhain.
Pinuri ni PSC commissioner Fritz Gaston ang torneo bilang malaking ambag sa programa ng bansa para sa sports tourism sa ilalim ng National Sports Tourism-Inter Agency Committee na pinamumunuan ni PSC Chair Patrick Gregorio.
“I’m also looking forward to this event because of the sports tourism aspect as well as the competition. Philippine Aquatics is on the right track promoting this,” ani Gaston.
Ang tatlong araw na torneo, na na-unang idinaos sa Bali at Pattaya, ay magtatampok din ng mga festival race na bukas sa lahat ng manlalangoy sa 2K at 3K.
“This sporting event not only advances the growth of open water swimming in Southeast Asia but also shines a spotlight on Boracay Island as a true gem of the region while reflecting the warmth and hospitality of the Filipino people,” ani PAI president Michael Vargas sa isang pahayag.
“Philippine Aquatics is very curious to uplift open water swimming in our country,” ani Buhain.
Ayon sa mga pa-unang balita, ang mga delegado mula sa Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore at Indonesia ay magtatagal pa sa Boracay matapos ang torneo.
Nagsagawa ang PAI ng tryouts noong Hunyo 5-7 upang piliin ang mga miyembro ng pambansang koponan.
