Naglunsad ang House of Representatives ng “rescue-buy” initiative para tulungan ang mga magsasaka mula Cordillera na tinatamaan ng bagsak-presyo ng gulay, oversupply, at mataas na fuel costs.
Isinasagawa ang programa sa ilalim ng liderato nina Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III at House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos, at pinangungunahan ni KM Ngayon Na Party-list Rep. Kenneth Paolo C. Tereng.
Ginaganap ang aktibidad noong May 19 at 20 sa North Wing Lobby ng House of Representatives papunta sa flagpole area.
Sa ilalim ng programa, ibinebenta ang sariwang cabbage sa halagang P200 kada 10 kilo, o P20 kada kilo, para hikayatin ang lawmakers, House employees, at visitors na direktang bumili mula sa local farmers.
Layunin nitong makatulong na maibenta ang sobrang ani na maaari sanang masayang.
Ayon kay Marcos, ipinapakita ng initiative sa pamamagitan ng grupo ni Tereng ang commitment ng House leadership na tumulong sa mga magsasaka sa panahon ng krisis.
“Our farmers work tirelessly to feed the nation, yet many of them suffer huge losses whenever prices collapse because of oversupply and high transport costs. This rescue-buy initiative is our simple but meaningful way of helping ease their burden,” ani Marcos.
Giit ni Marcos, hindi lang ito bentahan ng gulay, kundi direktang suporta sa kabuhayan ng farmers.
“Every kilo bought is direct support for the livelihood of our farmers. We hope this effort also raises awareness about the daily struggles faced by those who keep our food supply stable,” dagdag niya.
Hinimok din niya ang publiko na suportahan ang local agricultural products at mga programang nagpoprotekta sa farmers mula sa financial losses. /Bistado
