Dalawang overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) ang nasawi sa isang hostage shooting incident na kinasangkutan ng kanilang employer sa Beirut, Lebanon noong April 15, ayon sa Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Ayon sa DMW, ang mga biktima ay parehong household service workers na nagtatrabaho sa iisang tirahan at binaril habang nagaganap ang insidente.
Kinumpirma rin ng ahensya na naaresto ang employer at kasalukuyang nasa kustodiya ng pulisya habang hinihintay ang pagsasampa ng pormal na kaso.
“The Migrant Workers Office (MWO), together with the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon, is closely coordinating with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and the filing of appropriate charges,” ayon sa DMW.
“Upon the instruction of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, DMW Undersecretaries Bernard P. Olalia and Felicitas Q. Bay will personally visit, today, the victims’ families to convey condolences and assure them of full government support,” pahayag ng DMW.
“The Philippine government remains committed to securing justice for the victims and providing continued assistance to their families, including repatriation and access to benefits,” dagdag nito. /Bistado
