May sarili nang state university ang lalawigan ng Abra matapos pormal na ilunsad ang University of Abra (UA), na dating Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST).
Ginanap ang launching at University Founder’s Day celebration nitong Martes, October 6, sa Bangued, Abra, sa pangunguna ni Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Shirley Agrupis at iba pang opisyal ng pamahalaan.
Dumalo rin sina Abra Rep. JB Bernos, Rep. Ching Bernos, Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin, Vice Gov. Anne Bersamin at UA Officer-in-Charge President Serafin Ngohayon.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11574, ginawang University of Abra ang dating ASIST. Nagmula ang batas sa House Bill No. 7030 na inihain ni Bernos at Senate Bill No. 1733 na itinaguyod ni Sen. Imee Marcos.
“I wanted to file in Congress the conversion of ASIST to the University of Abra for the simple reason nga I really wanted to secure the future of each and every Abreño.
“We look forward to working with you and the entire university community as you translate this new status into greater opportunities for your students and a stronger contribution to the development of Abra,” ani Agrupis.
/Bistado
