Kasado na ang UAAP Season 88 golf tournament na magsisimula sa Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club sa Talisay, Batangas sa Lunes.
Ito ang unang golf tournament ng varsity league na layon humubog ng mga magiging kampeon para sa bansa
Isa sa mga koponan ng De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas at Adamson University ang magiging unang golf champion sa kasaysayan ng UAAP.
Maglalaban ang limang eskwelahan sa 72-hole aggregate, gross stroke play format sa apat na round na 18 holes bawat araw.
Ang tatlong pinakamababang iskor ang bibilangin para sa team total.
Tanging ang mga manlalaro na sasalang sa lahat ng apat na round ang kwalipikado para sa individual awards.
Ang UAAP golf ay binuo kasama ang Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. (PGTI), ang organizer ng Philippine, Ladies at Junior.
Demonstration sport muna sa Season 88 ang golf, na ibig sabihin ay hindi ibibilang sa overall tally.
“We’re very excited and happy that the PGTI partnership is a multi-year commitment. It’s not just a one-time arrangement,” ani UAAP Season 88 executive director Rebo Saguisag tungkol sa tatlong kontrata ng UAAP sa PGTI.
Para kay PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa, umaasa sya na dadami pa ang sasali sa UAAP golf sa mga susunod na season matapos ang patikim na Intercollegiate Tour noong 2025.
“It was a big success last year and we’re looking forward to replicating that success in the UAAP golf tournament,” ani Ventosa.
Makasaysayan ang Season 88 dahil sa pag-uumpisa ng golf event, ani UAAP president Fr. Rodel Cansancio ng UST.
“This is a historic milestone. Never in the history of the UAAP have we had a golf tournament. This is good, not only for the UAAP but for the country, as it helps develop the sport and produce world-class golfers,” ani Fr. Cansancio.
