Kasama ang Pilipinas sa 2026 Championship Tour (CT), partikular ang Cloud 9 sa Siargao Island, ayon sa bagong schedule ng World Surf League (WSL).
Gaganapin ang internasyonal na kumpetisyon mula Oktubre 31 hanggang Nobyembre 10.
Ang Philippines Pro ay itinaas mula sa pagiging QS (Qualifying Series) 6,000 International event tungo sa CT upang opisyal na makasama sa WSL 2026 at 2027.
Nagdagdag ang WSL ng isa pang lokasyon sa iskedyul ng CT 2026 upang matiyak na hindi bababa sa 12 event sakaling hindi matuloy ang Surf Abu Dhabi Pro.
Tinitiyak ng bagong event sa Pilipinas ang integridad ng bagong CT format at kalendaryo.
“We’re excited to welcome the Philippines to the Tour thanks to the support of the Philippine government,” ayon sa pahayag ni WSL chief executive officer Ryan Crosby.
“Elevating Cloud 9 to CT status reflects both the quality of the wave and the strength of our partnership. It’s a deserving addition to the schedule that will challenge the world’s best surfers as the World Title race enters its final stages.”
Kilala ang Cloud 9 sa General Luna, Surigao del Norte sa perpektong right-hand tube nito na nagbibigay sa mga CT surfer ng isa sa pinakamagandang barrel sa buong mundo.
Ang barrel o tube ride ay ang pagsakay ng surfer sa loob ng hungkag at tila silindrong espasyo na nabubuo kapag ang alon ay kumukulot at tumitiklop sa sarili nito, na bumabalot sa surfer sa isang lagusan ng tubig na kilala bilang “the green room.”
Ang local wildcards ay igagawad sa lalaki at babaeng magwawagi sa eksklusibong Philippines Pro CT Trials na gaganapin sa Cloud 9 bago ang CT event.
“Going to a new location is always exciting,” dagdag ni Leonardo Fioravanti, ang kasalukuyang CT World No. 1.
“I’ve seen some footage of Cloud 9, and it looks like a really fun slab barrel into the air. I am really excited being a regular footer and getting barreled on my forehand, which kind of only happens when we go to Pipe surfing backdoor, so I think it’s gonna be super super exciting.”
May matatag na kasaysayan ang Pilipinas sa pagho-host ng mga prestihiyosong professional surfing competition.
Ang Siargao International Surfing Cup, na unang ginanap noong 1996, ang pinakamatagal na international surfing event sa Pilipinas at naging bahagi ng WSL Qualifying Series mula pa noong 2014.
Bukod sa CT event, ikinagagalak din ng WSL na ipahayag ang pagdaraos ng World Longboard Tour event sa La Union sa Enero 2027, na higit pang magpapatatag sa Pilipinas bilang pandaigdigang destinasyon para sa lahat ng surfer.
“The Championship Tour belongs to the world’s greatest waves and we are confident that Cloud 9 in Siargao, Philippines, is one of them,” ani Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson Pato Gregorio.
“This will be a historic moment for Philippine surfing and the CT will usher the sport into a new era. Let it inspire a new generation of athletes. Let the world discover not just our waves, but the vision, ambition, and heart of the Filipino people.”

Bringing the WSL Championship Tour to the Philippines is the perfect opportunity to finally show the world what Filipinos have known all along: The Philippines has everything the world is looking for. Siargao will be unforgettable.”
Bilang bahagi ng tatlongevent sa postseason ng WSL, tampok sa Philippines Pro ang 24 na lalaki at 16 na babaeng, kung saan ang mas maliit na hanay ng mga World Title contender ay magkakaroon ng pagkakataong makalikom ng mahahalagang ranking points bago matapos ang season sa Pipe Masters sa Disyembre.
Ang Pipe Masters sa Hawaii ang isa sa pinakasikat na surfing event sa mundo.
“It’s definitely a lot of events, but you have more chances at giving it your best,” dagdag ni Fioravanti. “For me personally, it’s been an exciting year. We have some time to rest and then get back into things. I’m super excited and cannot wait to go and get barreled at a new location. Let’s go!”
Inilipat ang Surf Abu Dhabi Pro para sa Nobyembre 25-29, isang linggo bago ang Abu Dhabi Formula 1.
Samantala, inusog din ng anim na araw ang MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal at gaganapin ito Oktubre 16-25, na nagbibigay ng puwang para sa Pilipinas bilang Stop No. 11 sa Championship Tour.
