Natapos na ang pag-asa ng Alas Pilipinas sa FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship matapos matalo sa South Korea, 21-25, 18-25, 14-25, sa Chile nitong Huwebes ng umaga (oras sa Pilipinas).
Pahinga muna sa Biyernes bago sumabak muli ang national team kontra Japan sa Sabado para sa Classification 9-16.
Angat ang Korea sa lahat ng aspeto: Attacks 45-29, blocks 7-5, aces 6-4 at errors 15-17.
Nakapasok sa knockout round ang Pilipinas dahil sa dalawang malalaking panalo laban sa world No. 8 Mexico at No. 20 Tunisia, kasama ang ibang powerhouse team na China, USA at Poland.
Tinapos ng Pilipinas ang pool play na may 2-3 win-loss record.
Sa pagpasok sa final 16, nalampasan ng Alas Pilipinas Girls ang men’s team na pinamunuan ni Bryan Bagunas na muntik nang makapasok sa yugtong iyon matapos magtapos sa ika-19 na puwesto sa FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship noong nakaraang taon sa Pilipinas, gayundin ang koponang nagtapos sa ika-18 puwesto sa 1974 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship sa Mexico.
“China is clearly on a different level. But against the rest of the pool, I believed we had a chance, if only we had more time to train and gel. Still, they’ve matured a lot playing matches at this level,” pahayag ni coach Edwin Leyva, patungkol sa 18-25, 21-25, 13-25 talo sa China sa umpisa ng torneo.
Nagtapos ang Alas Girls sa ikalimang puwesto sa Asian Volleyball Confederation U16 Women’s Championship sa Jordan noong Nobyembre 2025 upang makakuha ng puwesto sa World Championship.
Masaya ang team manager at assistant coach na si Karl Chan na makita sina Megan Hernandez, Princess Manzano, Irish Mahinay, Taj Teves, Nadeth Herbon, at ang mga 14-anyos na sina Sharina Lleses at Jello Mauricio na nakipagsabayan sa murang edad.
“It’s fulfilling to see these kids succeed and achieve more, because it’s the start of their journey in international volleyball. We’re looking forward to seeing these 14 players be future national team players in the senior level,” ani Chan.
