Nagluksa ang Department of Education (DepEd) nitong Martes sa pagkamatay ng limang mag-aaral sa landslide sa Barangay Guisad Surong, Baguio City, kasunod ng tuloy-tuloy na pag-ulan.
Kabilang sa mga nasawi ang dalawang Grade 7 learner ng Guisad Valley National High School, isang Grade 3 at isang Grade 4 learner ng Bonifacio Elementary School, at isang learner sa ilalim ng Alternative Learning System (ALS).
“With deep sorrow, we mourn the young lives lost: two Grade 7 learners from Guisad Valley National High School; one Grade 3 learner and one Grade 4 learner from Bonifacio Elementary School; and one learner under the Alternative Learning System (ALS),” pahayag ng DepEd.
“We ask the entire education community to join us in keeping the families, the victims, and the Cordillera region in our prayers.”
Kasabay nito, sinimulan ng DepEd ang assessment sa mga nasirang school infrastructure, kabilang ang slope protection na kailangan upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral at teaching at non-teaching personnel.
“We are also assessing damaged school infrastructure, focusing on slope protection to ensure campus safety,” ayon sa ahensiya.
Batay sa datos ng DepEd-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) hanggang alas-8 ng umaga, umakyat na sa 961 ang mga paaralang nag-ulat ng pinsala. Sa mga ito, 32 ang naapektuhan ng rain-induced landslides.
“Based on rapid damage assessments, 961 schools have reported damages, including 3,297 minor, 1,135 major, and 1,093 totally damaged classrooms,” ayon sa DRRMS.
Tinatayang ₱188.551 milyon ang kailangan para sa cleanup at pagkukumpuni. Kabilang dito ang ₱26.998 milyon para sa cleanup at clearing operations sa 961 paaralan at ₱161.553 milyon para sa minor repairs ng 3,297 silid-aralan.
“As rains persist, class suspensions remain in place while DepEd field offices coordinate with local government units and disaster response agencies to protect our learners and personnel,” pahayag ng DepEd.
Apektado ng suspension ng face-to-face classes ang 6,512,872 mag-aaral at 284,725 DepEd personnel sa 9,890 public schools sa walong rehiyon.
Pinakamaraming suspension ang naitala sa Central Luzon, kasunod ang Ilocos Region, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley at Western Visayas.
Noong Lunes, ipinatupad din ng DepEd ang Education in Emergencies framework sa pamamagitan ng 4H protocol—“Hinto, Hinga, Hinay, and Hayo”—upang maipagpatuloy ang pag-aaral nang hindi isinasakripisyo ang kaligtasan at kahandaan ng mga learner. /Bistado
