Mag-uuwi ng dalawang silver medal ang tubong Cebu na si Jea Mae Palagtiw sa pagtatapos sa matagumpay na kampanya ng Pilipinas sa International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Youth Championships sa Cali, Colombia nitong Sabado.
Nagtapos ang 14-anyos sa ikaapat na puwesto sa snatch (88kg), ngunit pumangalawa sa clean and jerk (112 kg) at total lift (200kg) sa women’s 77kg division.
Ang Grade 9 na mag-aaral ng University of Cebu (UC) ay napabilang sa national team matapos makapasa sa tryouts noong Abril, kung saan nagtala siya ng kabuuang 193kg (83-110).
“I’m so happy because it’s her first time to compete abroad and she was able to win medals,” ani coach Christopher Bureros, na nagsanay kay Palagtiw mula noong pitong taong gulang pa lamang ito.
Kasama ni Bureros ang iba pang pambansang coach na sina Antonio Agustin Jr., Gregorio Colonia at Allen Jayfrus Diaz.
Nagpaabot ng pagbati ang UC weightlifting team kina Palagtiw at Bureros.

Ang iba pang mga Cebuanong nagkamit ng medalya ay sina Rhianne Cabalida (dalawang silver at isang bronze) sa women’s 69kg division at Althea Bacaro (isang silver at isang bronze) sa women’s 44kg division.
Nag-uwi naman ng siyam na medalya ang mga taga- Zamboanga City, kabilang ang apat na ginto mula kina Alexsandra Ann Diaz at Jay-R Colonia.
Si Diaz, pamangkin ng Olympic gold medalist na si Hidilyn Diaz, ang nag kampeon sa women’s 48kg category matapos magbuhat ng 77kg sa snatch at magtala ng bagong youth world records sa clean and jerk (98kg) at total lift (175kg).
Nagwagi si Colonia ng isang ginto at dalawang silver sa men’s 56kg division, habang sina Jhodie Peralta (dalawang silver) sa women’s 53kg division at Kirby Kent Alas-as (isang silver) sa men’s 60kg division ay nagdagdag din ng medalya para sa bansa.
“With proper support and God’s grace, we can produce more golds in the Olympics. We have what it takes. The future looks bright. Here we come, 2028 Los Angeles (Olympics),” ani president ng Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas na si Monico Puentevella, na nagpasalamat din sa suporta mula kina Presidente Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., sa Philippine Sports Commission, at sa mga magulang, national coaches at iba pang sponsor.
