Naaresto sa Prague, Czech Republic ang dating mambabatas na si Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co nitong April 16, ayon sa kumpirmasyon mismo ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Sa isang post sa social networking site na X bandang 9:43 ng kagabi, April 16, kinumpirma ni Marcos ang pagkakahuli kay Co.
“Nahuli na si Zaldy Co. He is now detained in Prague after crossing into the Czech Republic without proper documentation and is currently in the custody of Czech authorities,” ani Marcos.
Dagdag pa ng Pangulo, “We are in close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time. We will keep the public informed as developments unfold.”
Batay sa mga ulat, nahuli si Co matapos umanong pumasok sa Czech Republic nang walang sapat na dokumento, dahilan para siya ay agad na ilagay sa kustodiya ng mga awtoridad doon.
Samantala, sinabi ng Philippine National Police na kanila nang bineberipika ang nasabing pag-aresto habang nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga international law enforcement partners.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., “The Philippine National Police (PNP) takes note of the reported arrest of former lawmaker Elizaldy ‘Zaldy’ Co, who is said to be currently detained in Prague under the custody of Czech authorities. The PNP is actively verifying this development through official channels and coordination with concerned agencies and international law enforcement partners.”
Dagdag pa niya, “Once confirmed, the PNP stands ready to support all necessary legal processes, including coordination for his possible return to the Philippines. Further updates will be provided as soon as information is verified.”
Si Co ay isa sa mga personalidad na matagal nang hinahanap ng mga awtoridad kaugnay ng flood control issue na nalantad sa nagdaang mga buwan.
Patuloy namang hinihintay ang susunod na hakbang ng mga awtoridad habang inaayos ang ligal na proseso sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Czech Republic. /Bistado
