Bumagal sa 6.4 percent ang headline inflation noong June mula 6.8 percent noong May, ikalawang sunod na buwan ng pagbaba dahil sa mas mahinang oil price pressures at mga hakbang ng gobyerno para palakasin ang food supply.
Sa briefing nitong Martes, sinabi ni National Statistician Dennis Mapa na nasa 4.8 percent na ang average inflation mula January hanggang June 2026.
Pinakamalaking humatak sa pagbaba ang transport inflation, na bumagal sa 12.8 percent mula 16.2 percent noong May kasunod ng pagluwag ng tensyon sa Middle East.
Bumagal ang diesel inflation sa 39 percent mula 58.5 percent, habang bumaba ang gasoline inflation sa 39.2 percent mula 51.6 percent.
Bumagal din ang pagtaas ng presyo ng food and non-alcoholic beverages sa 5.2 percent mula 5.7 percent noong May.
“Every percentage point drop in inflation matters to Filipino families,” sabi ni Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan sa hiwalay na statement.
“It means household budgets can go further, especially for poor families who spend a large share of their income on food and transportation,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Balisacan, ipinapakita ng pagluwag ng inflation pressures ang epekto ng mas maayos na global conditions at coordinated government measures, kabilang ang targeted assistance para sa farmers, fisherfolk, at transport service providers, at ang pag-alis ng toll fees para sa mga sasakyang naghahatid ng agricultural produce.
“If we want stable prices, we need a stable food supply. Reducing losses from weather disturbances and other supply disruptions remains one of the most effective ways to protect both consumers and producers from future price shocks,” sabi niya.
Ipinatutupad ng gobyerno ang El Niño Food Security Action Plan, na may P26.13 billion para sa paghahanda sa weather disturbances, sapat na suplay ng pagkain, pagbawas ng income losses ng apektadong farmers at fisherfolk, at mas malawak na access ng consumers sa abot-kayang pagkain.
Isinusulong din ng Pilipinas at Japan ang national strategic petroleum reserve bilang buffer laban sa geopolitical disruptions at matinding oil price volatility.
“Our goal is not only to bring inflation down but to keep it low and stable. That requires stronger food production, more efficient supply chains, and greater resilience to climate and other shocks,” sabi ni Balisacan.
