Haharap sa witness stand sa Martes, September 29, si Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte sa impeachment trial ng kanyang kapatid na si Vice President Sara Duterte.
Kinumpirma ni Senate Impeachment Court Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero nitong Lunes na humiling ang alkalde na sa September 29 at 30 na lamang siya humarap sa halip na ngayong araw.
Ayon kay Escudero, sinabi ni Mayor Duterte na kailangan niya ng “substantial time to gather, organize, authenticate and reproduce the subpoenaed documents.”
“The Presiding Officer grants the request of Mayor Duterte to appear tomorrow and Wednesday, which, again, is covered by the subpoena issued already, so there is no need to issue another subpoena,” ruling ni Escudero.
Tinanong ni Escudero si House prosecutor at Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon kung ihaharap ng prosecution si Mayor Duterte sa Martes matapos ang testimony ni Police Maj. Jerickson Sangalang, Records Division chief ng Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office.
“Your Honor, that is correct, Your Honor,” sagot ni Ridon.
Na-subpoena si Mayor Duterte habang nagpapatuloy ang prosecution sa Article II ng Articles of Impeachment kaugnay ng alegasyon ng unexplained wealth at business interests ng bise presidente.
Inaasahang tatanungin siya tungkol sa idineklarang business interests ng kanyang kapatid at Davao City transactions na ayon sa prosecution ay posibleng makatulong sa pagsusuri sa alegasyon ng unexplained wealth.
Balak din ng prosecution na hilingin sa impeachment court na ideklara si Mayor Duterte bilang hostile witness kapag humarap na ito.
Susundan ng kanyang testimony ang corporate at government records na nauna nang iniharap habang sinusuri ng prosecution kung maipapaliwanag ng idineklarang negosyo at iba pang financial interests ni VP Duterte ang paglago ng kanyang yaman.
Si Sangalang muna ang ihaharap ng prosecution bago si Mayor Duterte sa Martes.
Samantala, hindi na ihaharap bilang witness si Atty. Gary Samonte ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Regional Office XI.
Hiniling ng prosecution na bawiin ang subpoena kay Samonte at pinagbigyan ito ni Escudero.
Nauna sanang nakalinya si Samonte bilang witness sa pagpapatuloy ng prosecution presentation kaugnay ng unexplained wealth allegation. /Bistado
